1% Tax & Golden Exemptions: Why Armenia is the Ultimate IT & Freelancer Haven in 2026
The digital revolution in Armenia is officially complete. Thanks to a fully online “e-cabinet” system, the days of paperwork and endless office visits are over. Everything from tax records to payments is now automated.
For digital nomads, software developers, and international entrepreneurs, Armenia’s 2026 tax architecture rolls out the red carpet. Here is exactly how the tax brackets break down and how you can take advantage of the lowest rates available.
1. The Core Tax Systems
Depending on your revenue size, your business will fall into one of these three primary brackets:
The General System: Designed for large businesses making over 115 million AMD a year. This includes an 18% Corporate Income Tax (CIT) and a 20% Value Added Tax (VAT).
Turnover Tax: The most popular choice for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) making under 115 million AMD. You pay a highly competitive flat rate of just 7% to 12%.
Personal Income Tax (PIT): The standard income tax for employees and freelancers is a flat 20%.
⚠️ New for 2026: Mandatory Health Insurance (MHI)
Health insurance is now mandatory. If you are registered as an Individual Entrepreneur (IE) and your turnover was over 2.4 million AMD last year, you are required to pay a flat annual fee of 129,600 AMD for your comprehensive health coverage.
2. The Military Stamp Duty
Every working individual and business in Armenia contributes to the Military Insurance Fund as a social responsibility payment. Here is the 2026 breakdown:
For Individual Entrepreneurs (IEs): Turnover up to 12 million AMD requires 18,000 AMD per year. Turnover over 12 million AMD requires between 120,000 and 180,000 AMD per year.
For Employees: Salaries up to 1,000,000 AMD pay 1,000 AMD per month. Salaries over 1,000,000 AMD pay 15,000 AMD per month.
3. The “Tax Havens”: The Lowest Rates Available
Armenia has engineered two specific tax brackets to boost local businesses and attract global tech talent.
The 0% Micro-Entrepreneurship Regime
If you run a very small local business making under 24 million AMD a year, your tax rate is literally 0%. Keep in mind, this is designed for local shops and basic services; IT companies and international traders do not qualify.
🌟 The 1% “Golden” IT Exemption
This is the biggest draw for digital nomads! Under the current law (valid until the end of 2031), software developers, IT companies, and AI specialists can pay just 1% tax on their turnover. To secure this rate, you simply apply for the “High-Tech Enterprise Certificate” from the government.
